This past weeks I have been helping a customer set up their SQL server backups. I have been reading a lot into this and I just realized how much there into it.
At the same time you also realize how critical is it to keep your database servers in a good condition by doing respective backups, making sure they are recoverable and cleaning up unnecessary files.
For the time being , the Maintenance Plans I ended setting up where :
- One plan to schedule a full backup of all databases,
- A second one to schedule differential backups every day (except the day of the full backup)
- A third one for the transactional logs, which can be set as often as you like.
- The fourth one is the cleaning, deletes files older than x weeks.
